Ballads, airs, jigs & reels
Beannachtaí! (greetings - gegroet!)
(In English but I speak Dutch)
Ambitious traditional Irish music revival project needs enthusiasts!
For a composition of maximum 4 musicians to perform in a theatre tour throughout The Netherlands and Belgium (to start with) including Irish step-dancing, the following multi-instrumental bandmembers, with a fairly acceptable singing voice, are desired:
- Fiddler (able to play Irish flute, tin whistle and/or bodhran)
- Guitarist (able to banjo and/or mandolin)
- Guitarist (able to play any additional instrument: accordion/concertina, whistle, banjo, fiddle, bodhran or spoons)
The leader of the band (initiator of the project) plays: uilleann pipes, harp, banjo, the guitar, tin whistle, low D whistle and bodhran.
One must be able and comfortable to play without sheet music and willing and able to practice once a week (at least) in The Hague.
Try-outs are planned in pubs, Celtic events and music venues.
To give an idea about the music, here follow some examples:
The Irish Rover (Instrumental)
Away we go Again
Si Bheag Si Mhor
Drops of Brandy (slipjig)
St. Anne's Reel
Oró se'do bheatha 'bhaile
Caoineadh Cu Chulainn
Star of the County Down
The Morning Dew
Swallow's Tail Reel
Song for Ireland
The Timpan Reel
If you recognize the majority and want to join this Irish adventure, contact me! Step-dancers that are interested are welcome to respond also yet female only (to fit in the program). Traditional Irish music is timeless so accordingly, there is no age limit other than the condition to be over 18 years. Stage experience is not required and skill level should be sufficient to your own judgement. Practice sessions are kept light and enjoyable. The goal is to get ready to perform and have a great and fun experience!
Hope to see you soon!
